Terms of Service
These terms
These terms govern your use of weiann.com, a community for slow thinking, honest prediction and long-form journaling. By registering or using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Who may use it
The community is open to people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, you may not register. We may ask you to confirm your age, and we may close an account that we believe belongs to someone under 16.
Your account
- Give accurate registration details and keep your email address current, so that password resets and notifications reach you.
- Keep your password private and enable two-factor authentication. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Do not create accounts to evade a suspension, to vote for yourself, or to make a small community look larger than it is.
- Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
What you may post
Write what you actually think. Argue hard, but argue with the argument. The following are not welcome and may be removed:
- Spam, unsolicited promotion, link drops and keyword-stuffed posts written for search engines rather than for readers.
- Harassment, personal attacks, doxxing, threats, or content that targets someone for who they are.
- Content that is illegal, infringes copyright, or that you do not have the right to publish.
- Automated posting, bulk account creation, scraping the member directory or exporting other people’s content without permission.
- Machine-generated filler posted at volume with no thinking behind it. This community exists for the opposite of that.
Predictions you record are your own claims. Do not present someone else’s work as your forecast.
Your content
You keep ownership of everything you write. By posting, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, format and distribute your content on this site and in its feeds, newsletter and search results, and to keep it available after you leave. You can delete your own posts at any time; copies may persist briefly in caches and rolling backups, and quoted excerpts in other members’ replies are outside our control. We will not sell your content or license it to third parties for their own use.
Our content
The site’s design, its editorial articles and the guides published here belong to Future Commons unless a page says otherwise. You may quote a reasonable excerpt with clear attribution and a link back to the original page. Do not republish articles in full, and do not use them to train or populate another site.
Predictions are not advice
The prediction journal, scorecards and calibration figures on this site are personal records and self-reported scores. Nothing here is financial, legal, medical or any other professional advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to act. Forecasts are frequently wrong; that is the point of recording them.
Moderation
We remove content and close accounts when these terms are broken. Where a decision is not obvious we will normally explain it and give you a chance to respond. You can appeal any moderation decision through the contact form. Repeated or serious breaches end in a permanent ban.
Third-party links and services
The site links to other places on the web and uses third-party services for statistics, email, sign-in and spam filtering. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content or their practices.
Availability
The site is provided as it is. We aim to keep it online and backed up, but we do not promise uninterrupted access, and we may change or retire features. Take your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Future Commons is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, from content posted by members, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. Material changes are noted on the update log with the date below changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of this site is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Where consumer law in your own country gives you stronger rights, those rights are unaffected.
Contact
Questions about these terms, moderation appeals and copyright notices all go through the contact form.
